For Policymakers
What's the Green Intellectual Property (GIP) System?

The GIP System was first proposed in 2003 by Itaru Nitta, the founder
of the GIP Project.  Simply, the GIP System would divert a part of the
patent-related monetary flow toward a trust fund, called the GIP Trust
Fund.  This Fund would provide subsidies and royalty assumptions for
introducing and developing patent-protected green technologies.  The
green technologies encompass eco-friendly apparatuses,
nursing-care for the elderly, welfare services for disabled people,
organic agriculture, essential medicines, and all technologies
advancing social welfare.
